Back to my roots food.

I made an old school southern soul food dinner tonight with my own spins.

Fried chicken- Just did the breasts, so I guess they are chicken tenders. Marinated in half and half, egg, and louisiana hot sauce before being battered and deep fried at 375 degrees.

Collard greens- boiled and then combined with onions that have been cooked down, salt, pepper, cream and a little bit of vinegar. Collards traditionally are finished with a little cider vinegar.

Blackeye peas- cooked with smoked Jowl bacon and finished with pepper sauce.

Cornbread- whole corn kernels and 2 diced jalapenos are mixed into the batter.

They are turned back on, for those of you that care, or messaged me to say there was something wrong.

My 2009 sports wish list

Baseball:
To adopt instant replay for more than just homeruns. For those who believe it will take out the “human element” I say it will initiate the “correct call element” and there is no way it takes more time than managers going out and arguing.

For ESPN to put someone who understands statistics, and won’t hail batting average, RBI, and pitcher wins on Sportscenter and Baseball Tonight with regularity. May it be Keith Law, Joe Sheehan, or any number or guys really; it would make the shows more interesting and give more validity to the analysis. There can’t be anything wrong with hearing both sides, right?

Will large market owners please stop whining about a salary cap. They have been proven not to work correctly and are just a redistribution of consumer surplus from players to owners. Oh yeah, that’s why you want one.

I’d like the down ballot voting for the BBWAA awards to be more consistent and objective, although they did a pretty good job of getting the winners correct.

For the Marlins to be in contention.

Basketball:

Flopping, flopping, and flopping. The officials need to get more serious about not calling flops, and the league needs to review tape for egregious offenders and use fines against them. Manu, I’m looking at you.

As I discussed last week, I’d like to see the All-Star game voting looked at and fixed however it needs to be. There should be starting PG, SG, SF, PF, and C. Instead we get G,G,F,F,C.

For people to stop the Deron Williams vs. Chris Paul talk. That one is settled guys, really.

Honestly I think the league would be better off with two less teams. This obviously is not going to happen but I think as a product we'd all be better off if we cut say the Oklahoma City Team Stealers, and the Minnesota Timberyucks and then allowed their players to be signed by any team in the off season.

Lastly but most important, I think the top 16 teams should make the playoffs regardless of conference this year isn’t as bad as last year, but still a very good Western Conference team will get left out while an under .500 Eastern team (or 2) gets in.
